Trauma Informed Yoga
My training is in Trauma Informed Hatha (Sun Moon) Yoga, with 200 HR Teacher Certification from Yoga Farm Ithaca. My Yoga Journey started in 2000 after climbing off the couch and into a Triangle Pose with Oprah and her guest, Rodney Yee, of Gaiam Yoga. I bought lots of DVDs, took many classes in different styles (Hot Bikram, Shiva Rea’s Flow, Kundalini, Nidra, Power, Vinyasa, etc.).
In 2001, I developed an immunity illness, with bronchial and skin infections, allergies, asthma, and fatigue. I was given inhalers, steroids, and allergy shots and told to expect life-long dependency. After reading about Hot Bikram and its role in cancer treatments, I found a studio owned and run by a registered nurse whose approach was unique. She combined her knowledge of medicine and trauma with her Yoga classes and inspired me to center Yoga as a lifestyle.
After eight months, I did not need inhalers, steroids, and completed the year of allergy shots. The allergies, bronchial & skin infections, and asthma have not returned with a now 25-year-long practice. Yoga is more than exercise; it is a developmental guidance system for innate medicine and human potential.
