The WET Lab

I had to take ALGEBRA in summer school after failing it freshman year, failed that and then failed two more years of it. I wondered if something was wrong with me until a Physics class opened the door to experimentation with magnet dust and water patterns. My teacher allowed me to stay in the wet lab room and make organic patterns during lunch. That engaged me in pattern in other mediums, like music, painting, songwriting, and metalwork where the medium can mimic water.

The process of casting metal always fascinated me before I was clear about it since I spent much of my early years looking at ancient metal and stone jewelry and sculpture at The Met. I didn’t know anything about how it was made, only that the shapes were really beautiful. I taught myself the ancient lost wax technique and then developed a technique to enhance the fluidity of the metal.
